Biomedical Engineer (Future Need)

Job Description

The Biomedical Engineer will provide biomedical engineering support as part of a complex team of engineers, technologists, clinicians, logistics, information security specialists, program managers, and analysts in a complex and fast-paced military medical environment. The Biomedical Engineer will:

  • Work on a technology assessment team to evaluate requirements, make recommendations, and compile technical data for military hospitals and clinics.
  • Maintain effective communications and collaboration with personnel in multiple departments at hospitals and clinics throughout the United States, and possibly at overseas’ locations.
  • Travel to locations approximately once a month for approximately 4-6 days.
  • Maintain current knowledge and awareness of multiple types of medical equipment and systems required throughout a hospital (radiology, ophthalmology, surgical, dental, patient monitoring, laboratory, pharmacy, nursing, etc.).
  • Analyze requirements for medical equipment by reviewing maintenance data, usage data, workload information, technology standards, and life cycle data.
  • Provide evaluations and recommendations for hospitals in the form of detailed written reports.

  • Ensure that the biomedical equipment is in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and quality control standards.
  • Develop systems requirements for purchases, prepare acquisition packages, and assist with the evaluation of vendor offers.
  • Apply pertinent laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and work processes to requirements involving the major issues and goals and objectives for product development and product life cycle support.
  • Assist with product design and help to develop safety testing, repair, and maintenance requirements for biomedical equipment.

Education, Skills and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree desired in biomedical engineering or a related field or Associate’s degree and recent experience/training as a military Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET); certifications preferred (CBET, CLES, and/or CRES); recent hands-on experience with a wide range of equipment types in a hospital setting, preferably military; extensive experience using Microsoft Office Suite, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, as well as Microsoft Outlook; SharePoint and MS Project experience helpful.  Long-distance travel may be required.

Additional Requirements

Must be a US citizen. Must be able to pass background and drug testing. Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.
